Danilo Diazgranados Manglano observe: Google is readying an AirDrop-style competitor for fast file transfers

Image
Google appears to be finally readying an easy way to share files across a variety of devices, including Android and Chromebooks, according to a new report by 9to5Google. The feature — dubbed Fast Share — is set to replace the NFC-based Android Beam sharing method Google introduced with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in 2011. Google has confirmed its plans to deprecate the API in the final release version of Android Q later this year. The alternative, instead, will leverage the Nearby service in Google Play Services to allow you share to devices around you without an internet connection. Fast Share will… This story continues at The Next Web Or just read more coverage about: Google View Source

8 Ways to Achieve a Life of Fulfilment Using an Old Japanese Concept

The Japanese philosophy of Ikigai became established in the 8th century on the island territory of Okinawa. When translated, iki means ‘life’ and gai represents ‘hopeful expectation’ . Ikigai promotes ‘the individual’s raison d’etre’ or ‘reason to be throughout a long and meaningful life’ . Guided by a simple framework, it encourages each one of us to seek an ideal balance of life’s needs in relation to our personalities. A successfully fulfilling career is not necessarily one that only exists at a high-flying executive level but one that harmonises with the unique qualities of your inner-self. Achieving this balanced contentment is the surest route to a long, worthwhile and healthy life . Here are 8 tips to help you achieve fulfilment using the Ikigai framework: 1. Discover your Unique Ikigai On a sheet of paper, draw four circles that overlap in the centre. Each section represents the motives that directly affect your life: what you excel at, what you adore, how you can earn an...

Danilo Diazgranados Manglano recommends: This sneaky kitten is a terrible and adorable little stalker

Image
Cats are natural predators. They can't help but hunt and stalk. This one just happens to be exceedingly bad at it. The 8-week-old kitten in question belongs to Twitter user @_TakivaBreanna. Her baby cat has developed a habit of hiding just behind a wall whenever she knows her human is approaching and then leaping out at just the right moment to surprise her much larger prey. That's the apparent intent, anyway. The execution... could be better. See for yourself. My 8 week old kitten started doing this thing to where she will know i’m about to come in the room and she will hide by the bathroom door and jump out to scare me when i’m walking up. 🤣 just thought I’d share this cuteness 🥰 pic.twitter.com/SOz1ckGGpr — BAE 💕 (@_TakivaBreanna) June 30, 2019 Read more... Danilo Diazgranados Manglano recommends: Facebook's Libra hasn't launched, but big banks are already taking notice

Image
Facebook has only just revealed its far-reaching cryptocurrency plans, but Libra is already prompting global financial institutions to take action. Central banks are reportedly becoming more interested in the idea of creating their own digital currencies following Facebook's Libra reveal, as evidenced by new comments from the head of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS),  As the bank used by central bankers. BIS is, in the words of Quartz , among the "the stodgiest of stodgy institutions." But BIS bank head Agustín Carstens now says central banks have to take digital currency much more seriously as a result of Facebook's move. Read more... Danilo Diazgranados Manglano recommends: Taylor Swift slams news Scooter Braun now owns her masters in powerful Tumblr post

Image
Taylor Swift may be one of the most successful recording artists of all time, but even that doesn't protect her from the terrible whims of the music industry.  The singer posted a note on her Tumblr Sunday afternoon shortly after news broke that Scooter Braun (famous for managing Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande, among others) would be purchasing her back catalog. Big Machine Label Group, Swift’s former label and the owner of her master recordings from her 2006 self-titled debut through 2017’s reputation , was sold to Braun as part of a $300 million deal, Billboard reports . Noting that she found out the news the same time everyone else did, Swift wrote on Tumblr, “All I could think about was the incessant, manipulative bullying I’ve received at his hands for years,” calling out when Braun's client, Kanye West, "organized a revenge porn music video which strips my body naked," among other events. Danilo Diazgranados Manglano recommends: The new and improved Gay Street sign is all over NYC Pride Twitter

Image
This year the New York City Pride March marks 50 years since the Stonewall Riot, and the parade is  bigger and more colorful than ever. As the march makes its way to Greenwich Village, one street sign in particular is popping up on social media as a symbol of 2019's much-needed focus on inclusion in the queer community.  It's pure coincidence that Gay Street intersects with Christopher Street right near the Stonewall Inn — the "Gay" of Gay Street is a family name — but its location on the parade route makes it prime real estate for a statement on what pride means in 2019. Take a look: The famous Gay Street sign, representing a wide spectrum of gender expression. Danilo Diazgranados Manglano recommends: Google's texting app could soon be more like Snapchat

Image
Google's iMessage competitor may soon be getting an upgrade. The company is testing Snapchat-like augmented reality effects in its Android Messages texting app, according to a new report.  The folks at XDA Developers uncovered five unreleased AR effects in the messages app, and they're actually pretty cool. You can see them all in the video below, but they include a fireworks effects, an angel (complete with a halo, of course), confetti, balloons, and a clever airplane animation. At this point, it's not clear if this is anything more than a test or when these might be more widely available. Google didn't immediately respond to a request for comment on the feature.  Read more... More about Tech , Google , Android , Apps And Software , and Tech View Source

Danilo Diazgranados Manglano recommends: Video of people playing ping pong on the subway has New York Twitter very annoyed

Image
New Yorkers are famously unflappable, but a viral video of two people playing a full game of ping pong on a 6 train has New York Twitter visibly annoyed at the players.  Author Mary Carr posted a video of the admittedly impressive subway athletes around 7:00 p.m. ET on June 29. Her video subsequently went viral, mostly because people were ticked off at the audacity of anyone who would clog up a whole subway aisle during rush hour. Ugh. They should stop trying so hard. — 𝔸𝕝𝕖𝕛𝕒𝕟𝕕𝕣𝕒 𝕁𝕚𝕞𝕖𝕟𝕖𝕫-𝔸𝕟𝕥𝕠𝕟 🇲🇽 (@aleximenez) June 30, 2019 People are coming from work. They are tired and want to get home drama free. The arrogance. — Lady Pie de Grue (@DPetagrew) June 30, 2019 Read more... More about Subway Ping Pong , Culture , and Other View Source

Danilo Diazgranados Manglano recommends: A high school student came out in his valedictorian speech to wild applause

Image
High school valedictorian Mason Bleu put the pride in Pride Month when he ended his graduation speech by coming out as bisexual. In a video that went viral on Twitter, he spoke on the importance of pride and in being proud of who he is, and quite frankly brought the house down with some real words of wisdom.  "I've dodged it and ignored it because I wasn't proud of who I am," said Bleu in his speech. "But today I'm changing that. I'm proud to be a bisexual man."  So I came out during my valedictorian speech. It was definitely the scariest thing I’ve ever done but the reaction was amazing. Thank you to everyone who supported me! #Pride2019 #LGBTQ pic.twitter.com/u8ih03NTJd — mason 🇩🇴 (@maasonbleu) June 29, 2019 Read more... Danilo Diazgranados Manglano observe: How supermarkets can reduce packaging to save the planet from drowning in garbage

Image
It was inspiring to read about the launch of Waitrose’s trial in Oxford offering consumers a range of products free of packaging. Their system isn’t revolutionary – smaller supermarkets have been doing the same thing for quite some time, as have many committed people. But it’s the first time that a major supermarket has made a big move away from the packaging-dependent model that has dominated major supermarkets for years. Waitrose’s system, where customers can fill their own reusable containers with an array of food, alcohol and cleaning products, reminds me of time spent with my grandparents in Kent as… This story continues at The Next Web View Source

Danilo Diazgranados Manglano recommends: Canadian group blames corporate interests for firing anti-Trump artist whose work went viral

Image
A Facebook statement from the president of the Association of Canadian Cartoonists took aim at one of Canada’s richest men in the controversy over an artist’s Trump-critical cartoons. Canadian political cartoonist Michael de Adder, whose previous syndication reached over a million readers a week, was released from his contract to draw for newspapers in his native New Brunswick after he posted sensitive anti-Trump art on social media.  The cartoon, which appeared on his accounts June 26th, depicts the American president standing over the bodies of Oscar Alberto Martínez and Angie Valeria, two El Salvadoran migrants who recently drowned while attempting to cross the Rio Grande River into Texas (as a caution, the art behind that link can be considered disturbing).  Read more... Danilo Diazgranados Manglano observe: We need to talk marketing ethics: What to consider as a content writer

Image
When I started writing, it was really just a hobby. I thought – since I’m already always scribbling away and habitually putting to paper everything I learn, I might as well start sharing it with blogs and communities across the web, to teach and to be taught.  I was a complete noob to the world of content marketing. But soon enough, what started out as a hobby turned into paying gigs, and those turned into regular and steady work.  As I started collaborating more closely with clients and writing branded content for companies, I was fully immersed as a content… This story continues at The Next Web View Source

Danilo Diazgranados Manglano recommends: Know the awkward pain of Ivanka Trump trying to converse with world leaders at G20

Image
This Ivanka Trump clip is equal parts relatable and horrifying. In a moment captured at the G20 summit, we see President Trump's daughter attempting to engage with a group of world leaders: Canada's Justin Trudeau, France's Emmanuel Macron, the U.K.'s Theresa May, and Christine Lagarde, managing director of the International Monetary Fund. It goes poorly. It's one of those lessons we all pick up in that merciless crucible of social education, the childhood schoolyard. Read more... More about Ivanka Trump , G20 Summit , Culture , and Politics Vie...
