Danilo Diazgranados Manglano observe: Google is testing a subscription for premium Android apps and games

Image
It seems like Google is looking to ramp up its effort to increase Play Store revenue. As per Android Police’s report published today, the company is testing a monthly subscription service called ‘Play Pass’ to grant you access to a bouquet of premium Android apps and games. According to the report, the monthly pass will cost you $4.99, and in return, it’ll give you access to a bunch of apps without any ads, fees, or in-app purchases. From screenshots obtained by the publication, it’s evident that the premium pass catalog will include puzzle games to music and fitness apps. Meanwhile,… This story continues at The Next Web Or just read more coverage about: Android , Google View Source

Danilo Diazgranados Manglano recommends: Joe Biden flubbed his website during debate, so of course someone bought the domain

Image
At the end of CNN's second Democratic presidential debate on Wednesday night, all the candidates ended their closing statements with their websites.  Except Joe Biden, who got confused. He gave the number to his text line with no context instead.  “Go to Joe 30330, and help me in this fight,” Biden said, faltering very slightly mid-sentence, possibly as he realised his mistake. Before the candidates had even left the stage, Joe30330.com was purchased. And a moment later, it was redirecting to fellow presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg's site, PeteForAmerica.com . But another couple of minutes later, the redirect changed again ... to joshforamerica.com .  Read more... More about Joe Biden , Domain Name , Pete Buttigieg , Culture , and Politics View Source

Danilo Diazgranados Manglano recommends: 'Jane the Virgin' gives fans a perfectly sweet goodbye

Image
As our beloved and recently unveiled narrator tells us at the top of Jane the Virgin 's final episode, everything ends. Stories end, friendships end, relationships end, and we must come to terms with it. Yet so often in real life – outside of telenovelas and the CW shows that honor them – things don't end. Chapters of our own lives draw to a close, but then things go on. You learn to live without the thing that ended, or with the new change. The endings we experience in letting go of television are unique because rarely in life do we have to let go of so many beloved people and places at once, never to hear from them again. Read more... Danilo Diazgranados Manglano observe: Study: Majority of online gamers have experienced both harassment and friendship

Image
A study has shone a light on how many gamers have experienced harassment and hate while playing online games — and it’s a staggeringly high number. Still, it’s encouraging to see the nastiness has been balanced (at least to a degree) by positive interactions, such as burgeoning friendships and finding accepting communities. The study, which was published by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and conducted with help from Newzoo, is based on survey responses from over 1,000 adults. It explores “the social interactions and experiences of video game players across America and details their attitudes and behaviors in a rapidly growing social… This story continues at The Next Web View Source

Danilo Diazgranados Manglano observe: The Galaxy Tab S6 shows Samsung isn’t giving up the tablet fight

Image
It’s no secret that Android tablets are in an awkward position. While Apple’s iPad remains an important part of its product line-up, even Google has given up on making an equivalent. But Samsung hasn’t given up on Android tablets just yet. Today it announced the Galaxy Tab S6. It’s clear the tablet has taken some inspiration from the new iPad Pro, but it has a few tricks of its own too. First, the specs: 10.5″ Super AMOLED Display 6GB + 128 GB or 8GB + 128GB RAM and storage configurations Snapdragon 855 or Exynos 9610 7,040 mAh battery (15 hours battery life claimed) 8MP… This story continues at The Next Web Or just read more coverage about: Samsung View Source

Danilo Diazgranados Manglano observe: Security expert steals a $3,000 ‘theft-proof’ bike in 60 seconds

Image
VanMoof makes some of the best electric bikes in the world — including this one, the S2, which we had to pry out of Callum’s hands when he was done reviewing it. But what truly sets the Dutch company apart is its focus on security. The S2, for example, comes with a hidden wheel lock, an “earsplitting” alarm, and a headlight that flashes S-O-S in Morse code. If that weren’t enough, the company even employs a team of “bike hunters” that head out into the wild unknown in search of your bike using a SIM-enabled GSM tracking system. For a… This story continues at The Next Web View Source

Danilo Diazgranados Manglano observe: Face filter bug reveals this young vlogger is actually a middle-aged woman

Image
She had built a reputation on Chinese social media with her “sweet and healing voice” which had enchanted thousands of followers. She was “worshipped” as a “cute goddess” – youthful and lively. Until a technical glitch during one of her livestreams revealed her to be a middle-aged woman, and not the young girl she presented herself as. This is the story of Chinese vlogger “Your Highness Qiao Biluo,” who has found herself in the middle of heated discussions on beauty standards after a face filter bug unmasked her carefully crafted online persona, beloved by over 100,000 users on Douyu – a… This story continues at The Next Web View Source

Danilo Diazgranados Manglano recommends: John Legend takes on James Corden in a glorious a capella riff-off

Image
When it comes to summer tunes, what do you prefer — a classic ballad or an upbeat bop? Well, here to settle the argument once and for all are John Legend and James Corden. In a segment on The Late Late Show , the two go head-to-head in an a capella riff-off, with Legend fighting for ballads and Corden defending the bops. There's an entertaining version of Billie Eilish's "Bad Guy," a slowed down "All of Me," and the whole thing finishes with a rousing duet of Lewis Capaldi's "Someone You Loved." Needless to say, the harmonies are on point. Read more... More about John Legend , James Corden , The Late Late Show With James Corden , Entertainment , and Music View Source

Danilo Diazgranados Manglano recommends: Hulu's 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' will only slightly scratch your rom-com itch

Image
If you know one thing about Mindy Kaling, the co-creator of Hulu's Four Weddings and a Funeral reboot along with The Mindy Project co-conspirators Matt Warburton and Tracey Wigfield, you know that she loves romantic comedies. It takes minimal exposure to Kaling's work with Hulu to understand that she'd happily live in this world if she could, and that almost every piece of media she offers us is supposed to provide us the same escape. Four Weddings and a Funeral , like the team's last project, is by no means a brilliant addition to its genre. It features a promising cast and established writing team, all unfairly burdened with delivering a revelatory rom-com they were never going to make. What they did make is perfectly fun and fine, a breezy way to pass the evenings as summer winds wearily toward winter. Read more... Danilo Diazgranados Manglano recommends: What 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood' gets right about Charles Manson

Image
The following article contains spoilers for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood .   Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is a purposefully fantastical rewriting of the infamous Manson Family murders. So it's ironic that this alternate history is also one of the more honest depictions of America's favorite true-crime legend, revealing the perception of Charles Manson as evil incarnate to be more sensationalized myth than fact. When people learned the premise of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood revolved around the Manson murders, it raised some eyebrows. Tarantino himself expressed the care he took to avoid yet another distasteful scavenging of Sharon Tate's tragic death to sell movie tickets — even managing to convince Tate's sister that his approach would be unlike any other.  Read more...
