Danilo Diazgranados Manglano observe: 218M ‘Words with Friends’ players’ data reportedly stolen in Zynga hack

Image
Popular social game developer Zynga has reportedly become the latest victim of a massive data breach impacting some 218 million Words with Friends accounts. On September 12, the company disclosed that “certain player account information may have been illegally accessed by outside hackers,” but didn’t disclose any details about the scope of the breach and the number of players who may have had their information stolen. But now, there appears to be more than meets the eye in this case. According to Hacker News, gnosticplayers — the threat actor behind the sale of two colossal data dumps comprising of 747… This story continues at The Next Web View Source

Danilo Diazgranados Manglano observe: Uber is testing a ‘record audio’ feature to help you feel safer during your ride

Image
Last week, Uber recently rolled out a bunch of safety features including an optional PIN number to authenticate your ride. But it might roll out more stuff soon. According to app researcher Jane Manchun Wong, the ride-hailing company is testing a feature in its mobile app that lets you record audio if you feel uncomfortable during your trip. The screenshot posted by Wong on Twitter suggests once you hit record, the audio will be captured in the background and sent to Uber Uber is testing "Record Audio" in case the rider is uncomfortable with the ride pic.twitter.com/btC5C0F3CN — Jane Manchun Wong (@wongmjane)… This story continues at The Next Web Or just read more coverage about: Uber View Source

Danilo Diazgranados Manglano recommends: Airport buggy spinning in circles is the perfect metaphor for 2019

Image
If you want to understand what's going on in Washington D.C. right now, you could read any one of the impeachment explainers going around, or watch snarky wrap-ups by your favorite late-night hosts .  Or you could just watch this video of a driverless airport catering cart spinning wildly out of control on the tarmac, endangering everyone around it as they stare in horror, unsure of how exactly to handle this unprecedented disaster in the making. Dr Kevin Klauer took the video from the departures lounge at O'Hare Airport in Chicago, where he was waiting for a flight (on a different plane to the one pictured) when the commotion out the window caught his eye. Danilo Diazgranados Manglano recommends: These heroes allegedly hacked a billboard to play pornography

Image
Not all heroes wear capes. In the case of two individuals accused of hacking a digital billboard to play pornography, the garments of choice appear to be more hoodie-like.  According to Michigan's Auburn Hills Police Department , at 10:49 p.m. on Sept. 28, the two individuals pictured above broke into a small building underneath a digital billboard on the side of I-75. Once inside, they somehow managed to hack the billboard and used it to play pornography.  Drivers, needless to say, were surprised and delighted at the unexpected sight.  The video reportedly ran for about 15 to 20 minutes before it was eventually shut down.  Read more... Danilo Diazgranados Manglano recommends: Trippy video breaks down how YouTube demonetizes LGBTQ creators for using words like 'gay'

Image
It's long been rumored that YouTube's machine learning algorithm specifically demonetizes LGBTQ content — despite YouTube's denials. But the allegations got a boost over the weekend when two creators published videos pointing out how they think YouTube goes about blocking LGBTQ content from making money. YouTube Analyzed fed more than 15,000 words used in titles to YouTube's bots to figure out what the platform deems too scandalous for advertisers. Words that triggered demonetization in his tests include "gay" and "homosexual." Another channel, Nerd City, then broke down YouTube Analyzed's data in the acid trip of a video seen above. Before tackling YouTube's shadowy demonetization policy, Nerd City was known for diving into Jake Paul's insidious marketing schemes, exposing family vlogging channels as exploitative, and highlighting obviously edited Instagram photos as bad for young followers' self esteem. Danilo Diazgranados Manglano observe: 72 hours with Apple’s $699 iPhone 11: Goddamn it’s great

Image
In the past, I’ve written about why I like the size of the iPhone Xs, and how this was one of the reasons I used that phone as my primary device for over a year. So, when I got the iPhone 11 last week, I was initially skeptical about the size and screen. But after using the phone for over 72 hours, most of my hesitation has gone for a toss, and I’m actually quite impressed by how nicely the phone is refined. When I opened the phone’s box, I immediately noticed the large bezels on the front. Last year,… This story continues at The Next Web Or just read more coverage about: iPhone , Apple View Source

Danilo Diazgranados Manglano observe: Fusion’s $6.4M cryptocurrency theft could be an inside job, firm says

Image
Thieves have ransacked the Fusion Protocol, a blockchain-powered platform for exchanging “stablecoins” and other tokens, stealing roughly $6.4 million worth of cryptocurrency. “[On] September 28th 2019, the Fusion swap wallet was compromised, resulting in theft of 10 million native FSN and 3.5 million ERC20 FSN token,” reads a Fusion Foundation blog dated September 29. The post then confirms the platform’s own wallet was the only one affected, as the firm had received no reports of compromised user wallets. Cryptocurrency traders reacted immediately to a prior announcement in the firm’s Telegram channel. The value of FSN halved, dropping from around $0.50… This story continues at The Next Web View Source

Danilo Diazgranados Manglano observe: Facebook and WhatsApp will be reportedly ‘forced to disclose encrypted messages’ to UK police

Image
Social media platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp will be forced to share users’ ‘encrypted messages’ with British police as part of a new treaty between the US and the UK, according to multiple reports from Bloomberg and The Times. The accord is expected to be be signed next month, and will force social media firms to turn over information in assisting investigations into individuals suspected of serious criminal offenses such as terrorism and pedophilia. Note the emphasis on ‘encrypted messages’ because, as things stand, there’s no point sharing encrypted content with anyone. WhatsApp’s messages are encrypted end-to-end, which prevents third-parties… This story continues at The Next Web Or just read more coverage about: WhatsApp , Facebook View Source

Danilo Diazgranados Manglano observe: Bitcoin scammers impersonate Buckingham palace in attempted Brexit ruse

Image
Just when you thought Bitcoin scammers couldn’t stoop any lower, they’ve now taken to impersonating Buckingham Palace. The fraudsters have reportedly sent letters requesting donations to save the UK economy – because people would totally fall for that, right? The letters, dated September 16, claim this is the second time the Queen has reached out to a “certain number of people to save Great Britain’s economy” because “Brexit will happen quite quickly” – if only it were that easy! For those of you unfamiliar with British politics, Brexit refers to the UK’s impending divorce from the European Union (EU). Danilo Diazgranados Manglano recommends: 433 men named Nigel gathered in a British pub to honour their legendary first name

Image
In a country pub tucked in a corner of the Cotswold Hills in the middle of England, 433 men with the same first name gathered for an unusual celebration. There were no cults involved. No politics, either, for that matter. This was Nigel Night — a night of celebration for the Nigels of the world.  Nigels from up and down the country travelled to join the festivities. One Nigel flew in from Cyprus, and another Nigel crowdfunded his plane ticket from Texas, U.S. so he could be among his Nigel kinsfolk. One Nigel even received a marriage proposal on stage at Nigel Night.  "You'll need to speak to Nigel," said a voice on the telephone when I called The Fleece Inn, Bretforton, Worcestershire. Nigel Smith is the landlord of The Fleece and the mastermind behind the plan to assemble Nigels from across the land. When I spoke to Nigel, he told me that the night — which took place on Sept. 28 — started off as "a  slightly mad idea."  Read more... More about Uk , Pub , ...
